Day 1 - Arrive in Stockholm

Begin your holiday with an overnight stay in the country’s capital. Spread across 14 islands, the city is a pleasure to explore and a comfortable night’s stay will ensure that you are refreshed and ready for your Gota Canal cruise in Sweden to begin the following morning.

Day 2 - Stockholm to Sävsundet

Board your ship at Skeppsbrokajen 103 for a morning departure. Stunning views are aplenty today as your Gota Canal cruise takes you past the home of the royal family, Drottningholm Castle and out into the Baltic Sea, arriving at the charming town of Trosa in the evening. Take a leisurely stroll around the town before heading back to the ship for dinner. Tonight we dock at Sävsundet.

Day 3 - Sävsundet to Berg

Leaving Sävsundet very early in the morning we arrive at the Stegeborg Fortress shortly after breakfast for a guided tour. Continuing our Gota Canal cruise, we reach the official beginning of the Gota Canal and then dock at Söderköping, a picturesque spa town. Sampling the local ice cream is highly recommended! Enjoy views of two gorgeous lakes as you enjoy your evening meal before finally docking at Berg for an overnight stop.

Day 4 - Berg to Motala

This morning on your Gota Canal cruise the ship makes its way up a total of 15 locks, giving you plenty of time to enjoy a guided tour of the Vreta Convent which is filled with medieval treasures. You could also take a refreshing dip in the crystal waters of Lake Roxen or simply enjoy a morning walk along the towpath. Sailing on to Borensberg, enjoy tasty waffles and coffee at the Gota Hotel before crossing Lake Boren and arriving at Motala in the evening.

Day 5 - Motala to Hajstorp

The ship sets sail to arrive in Vadstena after breakfast. Here you have free time to explore the quaint town and take a guided tour of its fascinating castle and abbey. Continuing the Gota Canal cruise, cross more picturesque lakes and finally reach the highest point of your journey marked by an obelisk along the Berg Canal. We arrive in Hajstorp late in the evening for an overnight stop.

Day 5 – Hajstorp to Läckö Castle.

When the ship departs this morning you have the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful walk along the canal side. Back aboard the ship, head out on deck for amazing views as you reach the enormous Lake Vänern. This afternoon there is a coach that will take you on a scenic drive through the Kinnekulle area, allowing you to appreciate the natural beauty of the countryside. Your Gota Canal cruise continues with an evening visit to the impressive Baroque-style Läckö Castle where we dock for the night.

Day 6 - Hajstorp to Trollhättan

An early morning visit to the glass studio at Lyrestad lets you watch local craftsmen create objects using fascinating glass blowing techniques. Take a stroll before lunch as the ship descends a series of locks and then prepare for spectacular views as you continue your sightseeing cruise of Sweden across the country’s largest lake, Lake Vänern. Later in the afternoon enjoy a tour of the impressive Läckö Castle, built in 1298, and then carry on to Trollhätten for an overnight stop.

Day 6 - Läckö Castle to Gothenburg

Reaching Vänersborg around midday, we take a coach to the Trollhättan Canal Museum which is situated within a storehouse that is over a century old. Spend some time exploring the old lock area before a coach transports you on the last leg of your sightseeing cruise in Sweden. Arriving in Gothenburg in the afternoon, there is the option to extend your holiday and spend more time seeing the sights of Sweden’s second largest city.

Day 7 - Trollhättan to Gothenburg

On the final morning of your Gota Canal cruise you have plenty of time to look around the Canal Museum and learn about the history of the incredible journey that you have just made. Reaching Gothenburg in the afternoon, the ship docks close to the magnificent Opera House where you will say your goodbyes. Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK or extend your holiday with accommodation in Gothenburg and spend more time exploring this vibrant city.
