Day 1 - Flight from UK to Reykjavík

Fly from London Heathrow to Reykjavík.

Day 2 - Geysir-Gullfoss-Skaftafell

Your Iceland escorted walking tour begins with a trip to the world famous Geysir, often known as the Great Geysir, in Haukadalur Valley. The mighty Strokkur is also located nearby and its powerful jets of water can reach up to 30 metres every five minutes. We continue to Gullfoss waterfall which lies in the canyon of the Hvítá River. Often called the ‘Golden Falls’, Gullfoss is Iceland’s most celebrated waterfall and the clouds which hover above are filled with brightly coloured rainbows, creating a magnificent spectacle.

Day 4 - Vatnajökull – Jökulsárlón – Fljótsdalshérað

As we journey to the south east enjoy fabulous views of the Vatnajökull glacier which is the largest in Europe. Here you can relax on a boat ride as we sail between the pearly white icebergs on the Jökulsárlón lagoon which mirrors the striking backdrop. The lagoon is brimming with fish such as trout, herring and salmon which invite Arctic terns and hungry seals into the icy water. Day 6 - Askja – Herðubreiðarlindir - Mývatn

Experience the stillness and serenity of the highlands as we travel to Askja caldera, a volcanic crater caused by falling land which succeeds a volcanic eruption. Inside the caldera lies Öskjuvatn, Iceland’s deepest lake. Admire the striking backdrop of the wilderness as our Iceland escorted walking tour drives us through Herðubreiðarlindir nature reserve, where a series of sparkling springs run. Spend the following three nights in the region of Mývatn.

Day 7 - Húsavík Whale Watching (weather permitting)

We drive to the pretty shores of Skajalfandi Bay to the town of Húsavík, which has become widely popular for its whale watching trips. With over 23 different species of whale gracing the waters, Húsavík is the whale watching capital of the world. As the traditional wooden boat bobs gently over the undulating waves, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for whales such as minkes, orcas and humpbacked as well as the adorable harbour porpoises. Day 8 - Hljóðaklettar

Today we take a trip to Hljóðaklettar where overhanging cliffs are engraved with wonderful shapes and patterns caused by lava, and caves here are plentiful. Appreciate the fascinating horseshoe shaped Ásbyrgi canyon which is believed to be the hoof print of Óðinn’s eight-legged horse. Later in the day your Iceland escorted walking tour takes you along the embankment of the Jökulsá River which runs across the awesome Dettifoss waterfall.

Day 9 - Sprengisandur

Day 11 - Þingvellir National Park
