Day 1 - Arrive in Reykjavík

Collect your hire car and check into your chosen accommodation. You might like to begin your self drive holiday seeing some of the sights in the capital or alternatively, take a drive out of the city to one of Iceland’s most iconic locations, the Blue Lagoon. Overnight in Reykjavík.

Day 2 - West Coast
West Coast

Winding your way along breathtaking fjords, you will discover some amazing vantage points during these self drive holidays. The enormous bay area of Skagafjörður is worth spending some time at, or you might like to climb the slopes of Grábrók Volcano and peer down into its crater. Spend the night in your chosen accommodation at Eyjafjörður.

Day 3 - North Coast
North Coast

Heading east this morning, you will pass North Iceland’s capital, Akureyri. You can stop here if you want to explore the historic Old Town. Your journey continues to Goðafoss Waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland and a sight not to be missed on a self drive holiday. Continue to Lake Mývatn and spend some time exploring the intriguing geological features of the area before checking into your accommodation for the night.

Day 4 - East Coast

Húsavík is the best place in Iceland for whale watching tours and seeing as you are not far away this morning, why not take a drive over there? Today on the self drive holiday you will have the opportunity to explore the dramatic East Coast of Iceland where Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, can be found. Spend the night in East Iceland.

Day 5 - Vatnajökull National Park

See another of Iceland’s impressive sights today as your journey brings you to Vatnajökull, by far the largest glacier in Europe. There are various tours available which let you experience the glacier up close such as ice climbing, glacier hiking and boat trips on the glacial lagoon. Why not book one of these tours to get the most out of your time here? Spend tonight in Skaftafell National Park.

Day 6 - South Coast
South Coast

With gigantic waves rolling in from the North Atlantic, the South Coast of Iceland is quite dramatic, especially with its black volcanic sand. Why not stretch your legs with a walk along the beach?
