Below are a list of all of the activities that are available on your Finland summer family holiday. Choose to try as many of them as possible or spend your week simply hiking or fishing – the choice is entirely up to you.
Hiking
With numerous trails to choose from there will be walks to suit everybody on summer family holidays in Finland. Enjoy the serenity of the forests where the only sounds are birdsong and the wind in the tallest branches of the towering trees. Perhaps you will spot some of the native wildlife such as reindeer, elks, lynxes, musk ox and wolves. Allow the peacefulness of the forest to calm you as you become at one with nature.
Quad Biking
For this activity those on a Finland summer family holiday will need to possess a valid driving licence. An exhilarating way to see the stunning countryside, ride these purpose-built vehicles up and down fells, through woodland and alongside rivers and lakes. Take a quad bike safari to a reindeer farm and learn about the traditional methods that are involved in keeping these important animals. You can also take advantage of the Midnight Sun and go on a quad safari at night time, experiencing this surreal phenomenon and absorbing the beauty of the surroundings bathed in a golden light. Full safety instructions and equipment are provided prior to the activity.
Visit a Reindeer Farm
A worthwhile excursion on Finland summer family holidays. Travel by minibus to the quaint village of Torassieppi where you can explore the museum exhibitions and learn how to lasso the reindeer in an enclosure. Afterwards, enjoy delicious coffee and cake by a campfire in a traditional tepee.
Fishing
The nearby lakes and rivers offer a calm and relaxing setting to spend a day’s fishing in Lapland’s crystal clear waters. On your Finland summer family holiday the relevant licences and equipment are provided leaving you with nothing else to concentrate on except catching a few salmon or grayling.
White Water Rafting
The Muonionjoki River that flows past the hotel lends itself to an exciting rafting experience for all ages. Completely safe and a lot of fun, the raft takes you on an exhilarating ride down four separate rapids which are interspersed with calm flowing waters before reaching the border between Finland and Sweden where you will transfer back to the hotel.
Canoeing
For a more leisurely activity on your Finland summer family holiday, try canoeing on the Muonionjoki River. Basic tuition and lifejackets are provided at the start of the activity and there is a break halfway through to enjoy coffee and snacks. Admire the stunning views of the fells with birds flying overhead as you paddle across peaceful waters.
Riverboat Trip
Leave the effort to somebody else as you enjoy a leisurely guided cruise along the river, giving you time to gaze at the scenery and watch for some of Lapland’s wildlife. The boat slowly makes its way to Akamella, an ancient burial ground on the Swedish bank of the river before returning to the hotel.
Arctic Sled Dog Centre
Spend a morning or afternoon of your Finland summer family holiday taking a tour of the kennels where over 400 adorable husky dogs are kept. Learn about their history and importance to the local peoples’ way of life and discover how they are trained to pull sleds and follow orders.
